Application Information

Deadline for application: Applications for advanced standing for ADED are due by 2nd Friday of Spring semester each year for those wishing to begin advanced study in the fall of that year. For example, if you want to begin your final two years of ADED coursework in Fall 2010 then you will want to apply for advanced standing by the second Friday of spring semester 2010 (January 29, 2010).

Process from application to notification:

1) Apply for advanced standing through the VOSS website starting December 1, 2009 through January 29, 2010.

2) A list of eligible students will be available through 404 White Hall (330-672-2580) starting Monday, February 8, 2010 and ending Friday, February 12, 2010. You can call or come by between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm to find out if you are eligible.

3) If you are eligible, set up an appointment for an interview with faculty. You can do this at the same time you ask if you are eligible. Interviews will be on select days and times between February 15 -19, 2010, depending on major (Science, Math, Social Studies, or Language Arts).

4) Come to your interview with your two recommendation letters.

5) Letters will be mailed to your permanent address by March 5, 2010.

6) An orientation for new admits will occur before spring break!

If you are concerned about the timing of your remaining content courses, please see your faculty advisor (e.g. Dr. Donnelly for sciences, Dr. Mikusa for mathematics education, Dr. Crowe , Dr. Hawley or Dr. Brooks for INSS, or Dr. Kist for INLA).

Monday of Fourth Week of Spring Semester: List of eligible students available through staff in Room 404 White Hall. Please go to 404 or call 330.672.2580 to find out if you are eligible. If you are eligible, sign up for an interview. If your name is not on the list, see Lisa Froning in 304 or call her at 330.672.2862.


Friday of Fourth Week of Semester: Deadline for eligible students to sign up for interview appointment in 404 White Hall.

Fifth Week of Spring Semester: Interviews

Seventh Week of Spring Semester: Acceptance / Denial letters mailed to students.

About the interview

What happens at the interview?

  • The interviews will be about 20 minutes in duration with faculty from the program. At least one person will be from your specific licensure area (INSS, Mathematics Education, Science Education, INLA)
  • We will ask you questions that helps us gauge your communication skills, your interest in and dedication to the subject matter, the age group, and the profession, your knowledge of the subject matter, and your openhandedness, flexibility, and responsibility.
