Master's Programs

The Graduate School of Education admits students to master's programs on a selective basis. Minimum requirements for admission the M.Ed./M.A. programs include an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 from a 4.0 scale.

Postbaccaleureate or prior graduate study will be taken into consideration when interpreting grade-point averages. Applicants who do not meet the GPA standard may, in special cases, be considered for conditional admission upon the recommendation of the program area.

  1. Obtain the master's degree application packet in Cultural Foundations directly from the Office of Student Services. You may write to them at the following address: Graduate School of Education, Office of Student Services, 306 White Hall, Kent State University, PO Box 5190, Kent, Ohio 44242-0001, USA, or they may be reached by phone by calling: 1-330-672-2862.
  2. Submit two copies of the application, the written statement of personal goals and professional objectives, and a check or money order for the $30 application processing fee to the Office of Student Services.
  3. Request that the registrar of each college or university (except Kent State University) in which at least 8 semester hours or 12 quarter hours were earned send one official transcript directly to the Office of Student Services. The Office of Student Services will secure transcripts of all credits earned at Kent State University. Transcripts must be requested from all other colleges and universities attended EVEN IF CREDIT WAS TRANSFERRED TO KENT STATE UNIVERSITY OR ANOTHER INSTITUTION.
  4. Submit a minimum of three professional recommendations and scores from the general knowledge portion of the Graduate Record Examination.
  5. Applicants seeking initial teaching certification as part of the master's program must also sign a moral character affidavit and be interviewed by an appropriate program area coordinator or faculty member.
  6. Applications, transcripts, and recommendations should be filed at least EIGHT WEEKS PRIOR TO REGISTRATION for the semester the applicant plans to begin graduate study at Kent State University.
