Ohio Department of Education (ODE)

Extensive information and forms related to becoming a CTE teacher are available at the ODE website. Link to Career-Technical Education.

CTE - 36 - an ODE form that records the experiences of a prospective Career-Technical teacher to insure the candidate has the correct experience to teach a C-T subject. The school district completes and keeps it on file. It is NOT sent to KSU.

CTE - 37 - An ODE form that indicates a school district has hired an unlicensed C-T teacher. The form must be signed by the appropriate school administrator and SENT to KSU. (See address below.) This form permits the teacher to enter the Route B licensure program.

Praxis III - An evaluation conducted on site at the teacher's school. The Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) of each indivicual school district coordinates this evaluation.

Entry Year - a series of experiences conducted on site at each school. This process includes an entry-year mentor who assists the teacher is preparing for the Praxis III evaluation.

Route A - A traditional path to obtaining a C-T license along with a bachelor degree. Route A requires student teaching.

Route B - A non-traditional path to obtaining a C-T license. The Route B path is based on a candidate's work and/or professional experience.

NOCTI - The National Occupational Competency Testing Institute provides testing services to C-T teachers who wish to verify their work experience and apply the earned creditys-by-exam toward a bachelor degree. (From 12 - 24 credit hours.)

License

Initial two year - this is the license issued to a teacher hired in Route B to begin the licensure coursework. It must be signed by a local school administrator.

Two-year renewal - teachers who have completed two years of teaching in the Route B licensure program and need additional time can have the two year license renewed one time provided the minimum course/credit requirements have been         met. Questions about eligibility for renewal should be directed to the program coordinator.
 
Initial five year - upon completion of a licensure program, the teacher applies for initial five-year license. The application process is related to the path (Route A or B) the teacher has taken to obtain the license. Teachers will be given specific application directions for the five-year license near the end of the program
