Our students have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in student affairs offices, both at Kent State and in a variety of other types of institutions in the area.
Assistantships
Many HIED students gain valuable work experience and receive help to finance their education through graduate assistantships at colleges and universities throughout northeast Ohio. Assistantships include assignments in various areas of student affairs, such as residence life, greek affairs, and academic advising. Admitted students are invited to campus for a 2-day event in early spring during which they meet other students in the program, interact with faculty, and interview for assistantships. This event, called GA Days, will be February 28-March 1, 2010.

Practicum Fair
The Practicum Fair, sponsored by GRASPP, is held each year in the fall. It features higher education professionals seeking practicum students and provides opportunties for current students to hear a short presentation and talk with prospective site supervisors.
Students in at least their second semester in the program can pursue these internship opportunities. Students can also learn more about the practicum experience through the Practicum Manual.
Summer Internships
Some students also pursue internship opportunities beyond Northeast Ohio. Here are examples from summer 2009:
Two students secured competitive internships through NODA
- Rebecca Fick - was a Parent Programs intern
for Orientation at Johnson and Wales University - Kristen Rupert had a NODA internship at East Carolina University
Danielle Dimoff landed an ACUHO-I internship with Brown University.
Connie Brannon had an internship in the Career Resource Center at the University of Florida.
