Action Projects for the College and Graduate School of Education

Note: These action projects were developed by the college leadership for all three departments and were consistent with the college and university strategic plans.

Advising & Mentoring Students, undergraduate and graduate, in Education

The goal is to implement a more comprehensive and systematic program of advisement and individual mentoring of students. This is regarded as a responsibility to be shared among students, faculty, and professional advising staff.

It includes improving communications, assessments, and career exploration.

Creating a Climate that Fosters Continuous Assessment

The purpose of this project is to strengthen College support services and to encourage all faculty and staff to develop habits of continuous assessment of the outcomes of their work and student learning. Primary in this project is the creation of better, more efficient ways of collecting information and data to guide decisions regarding student progress, program quality, and even resource allocations.

It also includes more support for the analysis of data and information as well as rewards to faculties engaged in the effective use of assessment to improve programs.

The College of Education Diversity Action Plan

The goals for the College and Graduate School of Education regarding its commitment to expanding diversity include achieving greater diversity of faculty, staff and student body as well as increasing attention to knowledge and skills related to diversity in the curricula of all programs.

Diversity for the College is broadly defined to include international as well as underrepresented American students in professions of Education, recruitment and retention of qualified individuals with disabilities, and expanded opportunities for faculty and staff to experience intercultural activities through the Read Center.

Expanded Collaboration and Outreach Activities

This project is building upon a strength of the College and Graduate School of Education which has long established partnerships with schools and agencies in Ohio. It extends the focus to engagement in substantive collaboration with colleagues in Arts and Sciences and in Fine and Professional Arts on matters of Teacher Education.

It includes expanding our outreach through the contractual services of the Research Bureau and the Center for Educational Leadership Services (CELS) and our collaboration with school districts, regional professional development centers, and with agencies.
